GIS Hardware/Software Consultation
RMC has the knowledge and experience for recommending GIS hardware and software
solutions. Our GIS experts have years of experience working within the field
and can make full evaluations, which lead to the recommendation of required
components. In addition, our Information Technology (IT) staff provides the
knowledge and expertise in systems configuration and networking procedures necessary
in today's high-tech environments.
GIS Data Layer Development
GIS Data Layer Development is a process of digitally creating real world features
(e.g., buildings, roads, water areas). GIS data layers can be created from digitizing
off of hardcopy maps, converting CAD data into GIS formats, or from using Remotely
Sensed data (aerial, satellite imagery) to extract and create new GIS data sets. Our
GIS technicians routinely develop new GIS data layers, digitize maps, project the data
into the proper coordinate system, and ensure that quality control is inherent in the
process.
Global Positioning System (GPS) Data Collection and Mapping
RMC has the resources for full-service GPS data collection and digital mapping. GPS
services include everything from collection GPS points for storage tank management to
creating digital point files for identifying transmission line locations. GPS data
collection allows for digitally representing how features exist at their true locations
and using GIS to display and interact with that data.
GIS Application Development
RMC uses its computer programming expertise to develop customized GIS programs. Our
programmers are experienced in developing applications and graphical user interfaces
(GUIs) that interact with a multitude of geospatial data sets. RMC programmers use the
most recent set of software tools and programming languages available, which includes
ESRI's Avenue programming and MapObjects, Visual Basic, HTML, Java, and Cold Fusion.
Our programmers have experience providing database programming for Oracle and Access.
Application development examples at RMC include, but are not limited to, programming an
Internet application for an Emergency Spill Response Plan, developing a GIS GUI for showing
hazardous material transportation routes, and designing a program for facility management.
The development of customized GIS applications can vary widely and are often designed to
interact with:
- Geospatial Data Sets (ArcView shapefiles, Arc/Info coverages, CAD data)
- High-Resolution Imagery (Aerial/Satellite)
- Relational Databases (Oracle, Access)
- Maps, Charts, and Color Pictures
Terrain Visualization
The ability to represent the shape and contour of the Earth is a valuable tool for
environmentalists, military applications, and many other disciplines concerned with
how features exist and interact on the Earth. Current technology allows for visualizing
and analyzing the Earth's surface using data such as Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), High
Resolution Imagery, and GIS data layers.
Facility Management
RMC uses the tools and application development capabilities of GIS, CAD, and computer
programming languages to design integrated facilities management systems. Each program
is designed to meet the needs and requirements of our customers. RMC's facility management
programs provide user-friendly interaction and the linking of facility data sets, such as
facility real estate, database access, GIS and CAD mapping data, facility photographs, and more.
Each program is designed to be a single interface to many data sets, improving our customer's
organization, management, and work performance.
Electronic Contingency Planning
RMC's electronic contingency plans are developed to demonstrate compliance with applicable
federal and state requirements. Utilizing GIS analysis helps manage the response and assists
on-scene response personnel through the first 24 hours. All essential provisions are taken to
enable the plan operational.

- Emergency And Transportation Resources
- Control Centers And Shelter Locations
Military Force Protection
RMC, using GIS, is building force protection plans designed to safeguard military personnel,
civilian employees, family members, facilities, and equipment. Our program's objective is to
plan and integrate antiterrorism and physical security measures for all situations.
Database Design and Development
Designing and developing GIS and environmental related information databases is a routine
task at RMC. RMC's programming experience in Oracle, Access, and Visual Basic provide our
customers with a start to finish Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) designed to
work with GIS programs and other applications.
Data Conversion
RMC's GIS team routinely converts data into digital formats or into file formats for use
in multiple programs. Scanning, digitizing, attributing geospatial data sets, and
converting ESRI ArcView programs using older Avenue scripts to run with Visual Basic are
all examples of RMC's data conversion and application development capabilities.
Environment Sensitivity Mapping
Impacts on the environment require tools and methods of analysis, which help us to analyze,
model, and monitor diverse data about our environment in a rapid and flexible manner. Our
multi-disciplinary team provides the technical knowledge of GIS applications and solutions
with the Environmental Team's comprehensive knowledge of state and federal regulatory requirements.
- ESI Maps
- Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC)
- Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
- Critical Area Mapping
Urban and Regional Planning
Infrastructure management is essential to a rapidly growing community's future. Developing
GIS data such as zoning, land use, transportation, and Cadastral opens windows to information
about various aspects of the historic, present, and future situation of an area. RMC's goal is
to formulate solutions to a great variety of problems in the areas of environmental management,
social policy, and transport systems analysis.
Training and Implementation
RMC develops the users skills to become productive and self-sufficient as quickly as possible.
RMC provides customized training designed to meet the specific needs of each client. Training can
take place at RMC or at a client site and can be designed to incorporate user-defined scenarios, exercises,
and data.
Internet GIS Mapping
Internet Mapping is fast becoming the GIS mainstream of visualizing and providing access to geospatial
data sets. RMC uses the technology provided by ESRI ArcIMS (Internet Map Server) to develop
and implement customized Internet GIS mapping capabilities.
Software platforms include:
- ESRI(Arc/Info, ArcView, MapObjects)
- Microstation
- Microsoft Visual Basic
- Oracle, Microsoft Access
